Program Improvements & Maintenance List

At Lalmba, we believe in being good stewards of the resources entrusted to us. While our core operations keep our clinics and children’s homes running day-to-day, our Program Improvements & Maintenance (PIM) list identifies the specific, non-recurring needs that allow us to grow, repair, and modernize our facilities and other resources in Kenya and Ethiopia.

How it works:

  • Every item on this list has been vetted and prioritized by our Country Directors to solve a real-world challenge, need, or improve how things currently work.

  • Direct Impact: When you fund a PIM item, you are providing a specific tool — like a water pump, medical bed, or school supplies — that has a direct, measurable result on our ability to serve.

  • Below, you can see our current active needs. As items are funded, they move into the “Recently Funded” section so you can see the collective progress we are making together.

Your donation supports Lalmba’s Program Improvements & Maintenance Fund. The items listed here are actual, current needs identified at our project sites. When you sponsor an item, we intend to apply your gift directly to that specific need. However, Lalmba retains the discretion to use these funds for other high-priority improvement needs if the selected item is fully funded or if circumstances on the ground require us to address a more urgent need. This approach ensures your gift has a meaningful impact while allowing our team the flexibility to respond to the changing conditions and urgent needs of the communities we serve.

New Store room at Ongoro

ID: KE-0001 • Kenya

At the Ongoro Children’s Home, our storeroom is more than just a place for boxes. It is where the children’s games, school supplies, and essential resources are kept safe—or at least, they are supposed to be. The current structure is old and struggling to withstand the elements. During the heavy rains that define the seasons in western Kenya, the roof and walls leak significantly, damaging the very items meant to support and bring joy to the 30–40 children who live there. We are raising funds to build a secure, weather-proof storeroom that will keep these supplies dry and protected for years to come

New Ambulance For Matoso Clinic

ID: KE-0014 • Kenya

The dirt roads leading away from Lake Victoria are unforgiving. When the rains hit, they turn into deep ruts of mud that can stop a standard vehicle in its tracks.

For Steve Oketch and his medical team, these roads are a daily challenge. Right now, they lack a dependable way to get critically ill patients or mothers in labor to the hospital in Migori when every minute counts. Our old ~2006 land cuiser/ambulance has served its purpose and is showing the wear of so many years of service.

We want to change that.

Our goal is to equip the Matoso staff with a new, rugged 78 Series "Troopy" style Land Cruiser. This isn't just a car; it’s a heavy-duty 4x4 modified with emergency vehicle roof lights, IV racks, and oxygen tank mounts to be our ambulance and handle the local terrain.

This isn't the only vehicle that needs replacing. But it is the corner stone and a starting point to replace another vehicle. To make this happen, we are getting creative with the budget. Once the new Land Cruiser arrives, the team will sell their old ambulance and a broken-down Toyota Probox to fund a newer Probox for everyday clinic errands.

Matoso Fence Repair

ID: KE-0017 • Kenya

The fence at the Matoso compound was severely damaged by high winds. It was already weakened by waves and erosion on the lake side and now a significant portion has failed. This critical repair will provide security to our clinic and staff area.

Solar system for new staff housing at ABMC

ID: ET-0013 • Ethiopia

Our healthcare team at the Agaro Bushi Medium Clinic works tirelessly to provide life-saving care to this remote community in Ethiopia. Thanks to your ongoing support, we have successfully expanded our staff housing—but there is one critical piece missing. Our newly expanded staff house currently lacks reliable power and lighting. Proper lighting ensures safe and dignified living conditions for our staff. We are raising funds to install a robust electrical system, including energy-efficient lighting and backup solutions to combat frequent outages.

Maternity Delivery Bed

ID: ET-0023 • Ethiopia

At the Agaro Bushi Medium Clinic, our medical team serves a community where modern healthcare is often miles away. Our team works tirelessly to ensure that every mother has a safe place to bring new life into the world. However, providing that care is becoming a challenge. We currently have two delivery beds, but one is rusted and falling apart, making it difficult to maintain the sterile and comfortable environment every mother deserves.

Our Ethiopian medical staff is ready to continue this vital work, but they need the right tools. We are raising funds to replace the failing equipment with a new, medical-grade delivery bed.

Filing Cabinets for RCAR

ID: ET-0006 • Ethiopia

At the Chiri Children’s Home, every child has a story, a medical history, and a path toward a brighter future. Currently, those vital records—along with our essential financial and management documents—lack a secure, organized home. We are seeking funding to purchase new, heavy-duty filing cabinets to safeguard the information that keeps our home running.

Wooden Chairs for CCH

ID: ET-0003 • Ethiopia

At the Chiri Children's Home in the highlands of Ethiopia, mealtimes are about more than just nutrition. They are a time for our 30+ children to gather as a family, share stories of their school day and find community. However, we simply do not have enough chairs for all our children and many of our current chairs are old and broken, leaving children without a proper seat during meals. To proivde a dignified and comfortable environment, we will purchase 20 locally-made wooden chairs.

Chiri Children's Home Fencing

ID: ET-0007 • Ethiopia

At the Chiri Children’s Home, we provide a sanctuary where children can play, learn, and grow without fear. However, our current perimeter is no longer enough to provide the protection they deserve. We urgently need to install secure fencing around the back and sides of our compound to address growing security concerns.
Currently, unauthorized individuals can easily enter the compound. This compromises the privacy of our children and the security of our shared resources. Also, without a defined, secure boundary, our caregivers must be on high alert every second to ensure curious little ones don't wander off the property. Installation of durable, high-quality perimeter fencing will provide a clear and secure barrier for our Chiri property.
