Atinafu was orphaned at the age of 4 after both of his parents died of tuberculosis. Soon Atinafu became sick with TB as well. On the recommendation of an uncle, Atinafu set out alone on a 12-hour journey over mountains and through frightening forests, crossing rivers, to a distant town called Chiri, where rumor had it a clinic existed that could treat his disease. He found Lalmba’s clinic by asking passers by for directionrs and there he received the life-saving treatment he needed. When people ask him where his family is, he smiles and says, “Lalmba is my family.”
Today, Atnafu is Lalmba’s Assistant General Manager. His 12-hour walking journey to reach Lalmba as a little boy saved his life. Now he helps Lalmba save the lives of others.
